THE Macuata Ex-Servicemen Association has commended the government's move in initiating an after care fund — an assistance given to the families of those military personnel who died while on duty.
Association president Kaliova Masau said the fund was basically given by government to assist the welfare of military families who had lost their loved ones.
"Some families have lost their fathers and this fund assists the mothers in sending their children to school, pay for household expenses and other needs," Mr Masau said.
"This fund has greatly benefited most members and we are really grateful to government for having the insight to help people like us. The association has about 200 members and most of us are receiving their benefits on a monthly basis.
"Our children's school fees are paid, household needs are met and this is all because of government's assistance."
Commenting on the operation of the association, Mr Masau said they usually met every month to discuss issues that would help them.
