MORE than 4000 cane farmers in Ba are grateful that crushing at Rarawai Mill has been extended.
This, after the announcement made by FSC executive chairman and CEO Abdul Khan to end crushing at Rarawai Mill on November 7.
Crushing was previously announced to end on October 26 for Rarawai Mill.
Ba cane farmer and advisory council chairman Viam Pillay said the move was welcomed by farmers.
He said farmers had ample time to harvest the harvestable standing cane before the end of the crushing season.
Mr Pillay said the recent wet weather had delayed harvesting and he urged farmers to consistently supply cane to the mill.
"There are quite significant tonnes of harvestable standing cane in the cane fields but we are glad that the crushing has been extended," he said.
