FORTY-NINE thousand students from 170 schools in the country participated in this year's Bank of South Pacific's Go Green Project.
Speaking at the project assessment at the bank's Labasa branch, Go Green co-ordinator Elina Naigulevu said 30 schools on Vanua Levu participated in this year's event.
Ms Naigulevu said the event started off with a major clean-up in schools around the country.
"Children were encouraged to turn garbage collected from the clean-up into art and craft materials," she said.
"At the end of the project all school art creations will be assessed and students will be given prizes according to the best creation.
"However, we are also giving consolation prizes to other participating schools this year."
Ms Naigulevu announced Boubale Primary and Labasa Special schools as winners of the primary school competition.
