FORMER Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) president Vidhya Lakhan commended the Fiji Football Association (FFA) and Dr Mohit Prasad for preserving the history of soccer in Fiji.
Prasad's new book, titled 'A History of Fiji Football Association 1938-2013' was launched on Thursday night at the University of the South Pacific in Suva by the deputy vice-chancellor of the USP, Dr Esther Williams.
Lakhan said the book preserved the history of the sport in its pages.
"As we lose the older generation, we lose history," he said.
"It is good that we have captured the history and preserved it in a book."
Prasad said he had always been interested in history and soccer was his passion.
"It took me a while to conduct the research and try to form some sort of story to tell about different players and competition," he said.
"This way I got to meet a lot of former stars and administrators and a lot of the things in the book have been forgotten so this is a means of bringing back the memories.
"The book is around 30 per cent of the research so the research is ongoing and I am thinking of doing something online so more people can access it."
FFA chief executive officer Bob Kumar thanked Prasad for his efforts in writing the book.
"When he first approached us, we were doubtful but now we see that he has done a good job."
