FOLLOWING an age-old German tradition of hosting one of the biggest beer festivals in the world, locals are getting ready to welcome the celebrations for Oktoberfest in Nadi and Suva this weekend.
The inaugural event will be marked by Victoria Wines in partnership with Paradise Beverages.
Victoria Wines sales and marketing representative Joyce Kumari said the event, claimed to be a first for the country, was expected to draw hundreds of beer lovers from across the country.
"The event is open to the public and the main purpose of this event is to allow the public to taste different types of beers," Ms Kumari said.
She said there were more than 29 different varieties of beer that people could taste.
"We will be having the different beers from Italy, Belgium, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand."
Ms Kumari said this would be a great opportunity for people to experience a different culture for themselves.
"There will be a brewer present at the event from Paradise Beverages.
"They will be teaching people about the different flavours and different beers that will be present at the two-day event."
The event starts today in Nadi from 5pm.
In Suva, the event will start at 3pm tomorrow.
The event will be marked in Suva at Bad Dog Café and O'Reillys Bar and at Cardos on Denarau, Nadi.
