TWO Rakiraki men who admitted to two counts of burglary and four counts of theft have been handed suspended jail terms by the High Court in Lautoka.
Seremaia Naicovi and Eroni Raikoti pleaded guilty to breaking and entering several rooms at the Volivoli Beach Resort in Rakiraki and stealing cash and items valued at more than $5000.
According to the court, Naicovi and Raikoti stole the items from a 52-year-old British teacher, a New Zealand business investor and the director of World Forestry Fiji.
Between August 13 and 17, the men broke into the guests' rooms and stole items that included a $500 digital camera, laptop computer valued at $2000 and a mobile phone.
Handing down sentence, Justice Sudharshana De Silva said the court found both of the accused guilty on each count of burglary and each count of theft and convicted them accordingly.
He said the two were first offenders and were remorseful over their crimes.
The judge handed them a sentence of eight years and suspended the terms for three years.
