THE Davetalevu Rugby Club team left the country yesterday morning for a three-week rugby tour of Asia where they will take part in three separate tournaments in 10s and 7s.
This Saturday, they will be in Borneo, Malaysia for a sevens tourney and the following week they will defend the Singapore 7s tournament which they won last year.
The team then for Kuala Lumpur in the third week for the Cobra 10s.
The 14-member touring side is made up of the Nadroga rugby team and coached by Esala Nauga while former national rugby rep Jone Ratu acts as team manager .
Davetalevu club patron Taitusi Lulusini said they were confident of a successful tour.
"We have won these three tournaments in past tours and I believe they will return with flying colours because we have faith in Esala's ability to mould these players.
"I reminded the players to forget the Farebrother victory last Saturday and focus on the tour because they won't be representing only Davetalevu but Nadroga and Fiji as a whole.
"Their performances on and off the field will be very important," said Lulusini.
The team was farewelled with a church service at Rukurukulevu Village on Tuesday night.
This is Davetalevu's 19th tour overseas and is well supported by two businessmen from Asia who own the Presideo company.
Meanwhile, club secretary Vereniki Nalio said they were also focussing on the Coastal Great Eight 7s tournament which will be held at Lawaqa Park next month.
"We hope to take part in the Bayleys Coral Coast 7s by winning a spot in the Coastal Great Eight," said Nalio.
Last year, Davetalevu reached the cup semi-final but lost to eventual Coral Coast 7s winner Red Rock.
