YOUTH and Sports Minister Commander Viliame Naupoto has commended Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) officers for their work in changing the lives of inmates through the Yellow Ribbon project.
Speaking at the FCS fun day held recently, Cdr Naupoto said the prison guards played an important role, not only with their facilities but for the national economy.
"The Yellow Ribbon is a second chance, offering a hand for people to grab, pull them up, build them up and point them to where they should go," he said.
"You have the privilege of shaping the lives of other Fijians, so they are directed to live a life of productivity."
Cdr Naupoto also thanked the families of the prison officers.
"We are only as good as the support we get from our family and friends.
"I thank them for their support to allow us to be good at what we do."
Cdr Naupoto praised the Yellow Ribbon project and the impact it had on inmates.
"Perfection is something that is hard to achieve in the sense that we can strive for it and along the way we will make our mistakes.
"And it is how we grow really, is when we make our mistakes and then we get up from that mistake, we grow and become better.
"It's a wonderful opportunity.
"If we don't give second chances, then we're really wasting the resources we have.
"The people are the number one resource in a country and we would not want to let it go."
