THE Nadroga under-15 rugby seven-a-side team left the country on Monday for a sevens tournament in Noumea, New Caledonia.
The 12-member side is made up of Nadroga secondary school students.
Last Sunday they were farewelled with a church service at Nayawa Villlage.
The team played its opening match against Vanuatu yesterday.
"Today (Monday) we had a training session at Lawaqa Park and these young players look promising," coach Nimilote Dau said.
"It's a first visit to this French-speaking country for all of us and secondly, for majority of the players, this is their first trip aboard and I have reminded them to play rugby first and win all our pool games."
Meanwhile, the Davetalevu rugby team is supposed to leave today for a two-week rugby tour to Asia.
The side is made up entirely of the champion Nadroga side that won the Farebrother-Sullivan Trophy from Tailevu last Saturday.
They will be taking part in a tens tournament in Malaysia and the following week they fly across for a 7s tournament in Singapore.
