MACIU Gauna is among the top Fijian Performers in Australian summer of cricket.
"Fijians are continuing to be among the top performers as Maciu Gauna showed with his opening half-century knock for his side, Wests Illawarra, in round one of the 2013/2014 season of the Illawarra Cricket League," reported Cricket Fiji marketing and communications officer Laura Macintosh.
"Opening the batting for the 'Devils', a club based in the Wooloongong region of New South Wales, approximately an hour south of Sydney, Gauna notched 52, the highest score of his team's innings," she said.
"Although his side went down in both their round one match against Keira, and in round two again Balgownie, from a Fijian cricket perspective, Gauna's staying power at the crease with the opening bat is an essential characteristic needed as Fiji looks to break back into the World Cricket League's Division 6 at the end of 2014."
This Saturday Gauna's side will face Corrimal Cricket Club in round three of the Cricket Illawarra season.
Other Fijian players solidifying their experience in Australian conditions over the summer includes Sekove Ravoka, currently playing for Cowaramup Cricket Club based in the Margaret River region of Western Australia, and Viliame Yabaki, who departs for Melbourne tomorrow on a six-month contract with the Boroondara Cobras.
