NINE districts will participate in this year's Fiji Football Association Women's Inter-District Championship which starts on Friday at Govind Park in Ba.
Defending champions Labasa is the top bet but the Northerners will face tough battle from hosts Ba and former champions Suva in the tournament which ends on Sunday.
Rewa, Lami, Lautoka, Nadi, Nadroga and Navua are the other teams participating.
Fiji FA women's football director Susan Wise said they anticipated a tough competition this weekend.
She said being the defending champions, Labasa had the edge over other teams in the tournament.
"But there are other teams that will surely give Labasa a tough competition," Wise said.
The Suva side, which used to dominate women's soccer in the past, has been preparing well to regain its number one spot.
Suva Women's Football Association president Surendra Prasad said the Capital City side remained focused on the task at hand despite the early setbacks.
"We have been facing difficulties in securing a ground for training because of the rainy spell," he said.
"However, the team has been preparing well under former player Kini Ravai and we are hoping for a better outing this year."
Prasad said they would be fielding a mixture of young and experienced players in the tournament this weekend.
