SATARUA and Sarafui sports clubs are gearing up for the Rotuma Games in Suva next month.
As part of the build-up, the two Suva-based clubs played friendly volleyball and netball matches at St Marcellin Primary School in Vatuwaqa.
Satarua and Sarafui are two of six clubs participating at the 2013 Rotuma Games in Suva.
The six clubs are affiliated to the Fiji Rotuma Sports Council. This year, the council welcomed back Lautoka-based club Mairo and a rugby team from Rotuma.
Satarua Sports and Social Club spokesman Rupeni Fonmanu said they were looking forward to the annual event.
He said the friendly game was to gear them up for the event on November 2. "The friendly game today (Saturday) was an opportunity to get our sporting community together in the lead-up to the Rotuma Games on November 2 in Suva," he said.
"We were able to identify areas to work on while enjoying clean and fun competition with our sister club Sarafui."
He said the main objective of the annual sports day was to identify untapped sporting talents.
"Our annual Rotuma Games is a platform to develop and advance the sporting talents and skills of Rotumans. This is one way we can also get together as a community."
Satarua thanked Vodafone Fiji Limited, BSP Life, Bank of South Pacific, Damodar Brothers Limited, Digicel Fiji and Coca-Cola Amatil for supporting the event.
Raesea and Sarafui were joint winners of the annual Rotuma Sports Day held at Laucala in Suva last year.
