LOCAL women's rights group FemLINKPACIFIC has welcomed a new UN Security Council Resolution.
The new resolution, according to the organisation executive director, Sharon Bhagwan-Rolls, works to improve participation opportunities for women.
"The UN Security Council has adopted a new resolution aimed at removing barriers to women's full participation in all efforts to prevent, resolve, and rebuild from conflict," Ms Bhagwan-Rolls explained in a statement yesterday.
"This resolution should provide the necessary traction and impetus to accelerate the progress of our own Pacific Regional Action Plan which has a focus on enhancing and mainstreaming women and young women's participation in all aspects of peace and security."
The statement highlighted one of the key areas the resolution focused on was the call it made to member states be responsible enough to fund work around women's leadership.
