MEDICAL research is the focus of a two-day conference for local general practitioners who gathered in Nadi recently to discuss medical data that could be used by health professionals.
While opening the conference at the Radisson Blu Denarau Resort on Friday, Minister for Health Dr Neil Sharma highlighted the importance of the publication of these researches for medical development.
"It is unfortunate that we have not seen any research publication in our local Fiji general practitioner or our World Organisation of Family of Doctors (WONCA) Journal in the last several years from our shores although we remain data rich," he said.
"But with the support of WONCA and its top ranking professionals, today's sunset will be the sunrise of office clinical and public health research collaboration between partners in private sector with our public sector."
He said office-based research was now a necessity.
The conference ended yesterday.
