LAUTOKA City Council special administrator Praveen Bala became an honorary Scout member of the Lautoka District Scout Council after closing the annual Scout rally at Fenner Park on Saturday night.
Mr Bala was chief guest at the final of the rally which brought out more than 300 students from 23 primary schools in Lautoka.
"The Lautoka City Council is privileged to work in partnership in hosting this annual rally because we believe this is a worthy investment," he said.
"It is an investment in the development of our younger generation.
"This is the first time ever the Lautoka Scouts District Council has put up an annual rally as big as this and these young boys should be proud to be part of that history."
He said the council would always support such programs that encouraged development of youths.
"We regard such programs as breeding avenues for dynamic and outstanding future leaders of our society."
Ministry of Education divisional principal officer west Albert Wise said the annual rally was an important event for the ministry.
"With the success of this annual rally, the ministry would like to see the development of the scouting program in all schools," he said.
"Scouting is a program that government through the ministry, would like to see in all schools throughout Fiji.
"It encourages lifelong determination and commitment that would develop future citizens of Fiji is very encouraging not only to the scouts council but also to the ministry and government."
