NADI golfer and former professional Abid Hussain won the 82nd Lautoka Open Championship after a three holes playoff at the Golf Links course yesterday.
Hussain beat Lautoka schoolteacher and national rep Roneel Prakash in the playoff after both golfers carded a total of 103 after 27 holes.
Prakash was unfortunate when his tee-off shot for the first playoff hole found the bush.
Abid, who won the 80th RC Manubhai Ba Open Championship last month, was elated with his feat.
This is his first-ever Lautoka Open victory.
The Nadi businessman dedicated the win to his family.
"I'm really happy with my performance," Abid said.
"I thank the Lord for giving me the strength because playing 27 holes and then the playoffs on one day is not an easy task. It was a tiring day. It was a challenge to play against a national rep.
"I was focused on the game. There was no pressure in the playoffs after Roneel's tee off went into the bush."
Abid's son Baarroon Hussain won the A grade gross title. Ram Reddy won the B grade gross while Alvin Singh won the C grade gross.
Lautoka Golf Club vice-captain Suren Pillay won the A grade nett, Abdul Khan won the B grade nett while Jason Woon won the C grade nett.
