Nadal pulls out
MADRID - World number one Rafael Nadal has pulled out of next week's Swiss Indoors ATP tournament in Basel, citing his tiring schedule in recent weeks. "Hi all, sorry to announce that I won't travel to Basel in Switzerland but after very exhausting weeks I have to regroup my fitness and my body," he wrote on his Facebook page. "I will do my best to come back to the Swiss Indoors next year."

BERLIN, Oct 18 AFP - Bayer Leverkusen snatched top spot in the Bundesliga on Friday but only after a "ghost goal" allowed them to beat Hoffenheim 2-1. Leverkusen striker Stefan Kiessling looked to have headed wide in the 70th minute and even thrust his arms into the air in frustration at his miss. But the ball then crept through a small hole in the side netting of the Hoffenheim goal.
ROME - Juventus and Livorno have been ordered by FIFA to help Adrian Mutu pay the more than 21 million euros ($F52 million) he owes Chelsea in a nine-year legal case over a positive cocaine test. After the order was first reported by the Gazzetta dello Sport, FIFA confirmed to The Associated Press that its Dispute Resolution Chamber ruled the Italian clubs "are jointly responsible."
PARIS - Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina shrugged off his World Cup jet lag to star in Nice's 1-0 Ligue 1 win over Cote d'Azur rivals Marseille on Friday. Ospina, who played in Tuesday's 2-1 World Cup qualifying win over Paraguay in Asuncion, pulled off a string of fine saves as Nice moved into fifth place in the table, four points off the lead held by Monaco. Marseille remain fourth, ahead of Nice on goal difference.
LONDON - Andros Townsend, English football's man-of-the-moment, has signed a new four-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur, the Premier League club announced Friday. Townsend, 22, marked his England debut last Friday with a goal in a 4-1 win over Montenegro before impressing again at Wembley on Tuesday in a 2-0 victory over Poland that secured a place at next year's World Cup finals in Brazil for Roy Hodgson's side.
MOSCOW - Samantha Stosur will face doubles partner Svetlana Kuznetsova in the semi-finals of the Kremlin Cup after both players won in straight sets on Friday. Stosur extended her unbeaten run to eight matches by defeating Ana Ivanovic 7-5 6-4, while Kuznetsova beat second-seeded Roberta Vinci 6-2 6-3. Also, defending men's champion Andreas Seppi of Italy made it into his fifth semi-final of the season after Edouard Roger-Vasselin retired with a neck strain while trailing 5-2.
