THE Fiji Roads Authority is looking at companies on Vanua Levu to be sub-contracted when a new major contract is awarded for Northern roads.
FRA chief executive Neil Cook said although they had not reached a decision, consideration of companies in the North had been allowed.
"We are certainly looking into that and see supplies in the North as we work on solutions moving forward," he said.
"While considering the companies in the North that can do roadworks, we have seen that there is no single company that can take the overall contracted job.
"So, even if another company comes in to take over roadworks in the North, we will still subcontract companies in the North.
"This way the subcontracting companies can develop their abilities over period of years and manage supply chains and multiple projects."
Mr Cook said it was vital for the companies in the North to get involved.
"At this stage, no decision has been made about the road contract in the North," he said.
"We are still working on processes that need to be done first before a decision is made."
