THE Commissioner Northern's office has reactivated its termite infestation taskforce to increase awareness of the house-wrecking insects.
Acting commissioner Alipate Bolalevu yesterday said the team would visit termite-infested areas such as Basoga and Nakama in Labasa before reaching out to other parts of Vanua Levu.
"We expect to deploy the team in two weeks as we are also waiting for Biosecurity Authority of Fiji officials to join them," he said.
"The program will basically focus on educating homeowners on ways to kill such insects.
"So far, we have not received any report of a home being plagued with termites and we are appreciative of the fact that people are taking good care of their homes."
Mr Bolalevu said the team would also be increasing awareness of the American Iguana.
He said the team would be visiting Qamea and Laucala Island off Taveuni since such iguanas were widely seen in these areas.
Last year, a team from Biosecurity Authority of Fiji was in Labasa to work with property owners that has had their homes damaged by termites.
