VIKA Vadiga was overjoyed when she learnt she won first place in the Floral Court category at the annual Suva Orchid and Horticulture Circle flower show which opened yesterday.
Being a member of the Suva Orchid and Horticulture Circle, she is following in the footsteps of her mother.
Her colourful winning piece named Bold and Beautiful was inspired by her love of tropical flowers and nature.
"I think we are lucky to have all these tropical plants because when I was overseas for five years, I found that tropical flowers were very expensive," Ms Vadiga said.
She dedicated the win to her home island of Bau saying such a small island did not have much space for trees and flowers.
Minister for Women Dr Jiko Luveni officially opened the show, which also marked 60 years of existence for the circle.
President Druma Kamikamica said one of the highlights of the show was the new arrangement categories introduced this year.
"We had more than 50 participants over three categories," Ms Kamikamica said.
She invited members of the public to visit the show at the Suva Civic Centre lower auditorium where flowers and plants could also be bought.
Rekha Devi attends the show every year and said, as always, she was very impressed with new designs by the participants.
