LAUGHTER and excitement filled the air yesterday as staff members of Save the Children Fiji (SC Fiji) welcomed their new CEO Raijeli Nicole.
Mrs Nicole, originally from Fiji, returned to the country three months ago to begin her three-year term as CEO of the organisation.
She said she was impressed so far with the level of commitment she witnessed.
"In terms of the work to be done, in the three months that I've been here, I've been really impressed with the overall commitment and capacities shown.
"At the heart of everything, it's about walking the talk and so the organisation — our values, our accountability, creativity, transparency — these are things that we will make real in our everyday work," she said.
When asked about the biggest challenges she was anticipating, Mrs Nicole said: "Social change is a long path and what I have to do is to tamper my expectations and measure them with the reality.
"So, the challenge for me is just getting through the working day because that's really just about taking into awareness what we can do in the next three years."
Mrs Nicole hopes to be able to ask harder questions, which although uncomfortable, would be done with the best intentions.
"I want to rebrand the organisation, make it a place where we can have the difficult conversations, let's not skirt around the issue, let's say that this is hard and that's it."
