MY man was amazing.
These were the sentiments of 48-year-old Veena Chand of Naduru, Nausori who lost her husband in a tragic road accident on Monday.
Vijay Chand, 50, died in his taxi after hitting a power pole while returning home from work.
In an interview, a distraught Mrs Chand said she was at home with her two children when she received a call informing her that her husband was involved in an accident and had been hospitalised.
"When I went to the hospital, I saw my husband was covered with a white cloth and I was told to identify his body," she said.
She said her husband was one who was respected by everyone in the village.
"He was a preacher and was a wonderful family man. He has gone too soon.
"He will be missed," she lamented.
Confirming the incident, police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said the man was returning home from drinking grog at his friend's home when the vehicle he was driving went off the road and hit a lamppost.
"A 35-year-old passenger also travelling in the vehicle was later transferred to the CWM Hospital where he is admitted for observation," Ms Naisoro said.
She said the incident occurred 200 metres away from where his friend's home was located.
"He was rushed to the Nausori Hospital where he was, unfortunately, pronounced dead on arrival."
Ms Naisoro said the post-mortem examination would be conducted soon.
