AS part of the Rural Women's Day celebrated nationwide yesterday, members of the Macuata Soqosoqo Vakamarama Macuata organised a market day to display and sell handicraft items.
The Labasa event was also an opportunity for the women to contribute $2 each for the operation of their association.
Roko tui Macuata Sitiveni Lalibuli told the women to use the event as a platform to learn from one another the art of making creative handicraft items.
He said women should also make use of available resources in their villages and settlements to generate income for their families.
Mr Lalibuli reminded the women of their roles as mothers and told them to love and help one another in their daily work.
Event co-ordinator Adi Samanunu Katonivere said the event was a special one because it was for the rural women of Caumatalevu.
"For the national celebration, some of our representatives have gone to be part of it in Nadi and others have stayed to celebrate it here in Labasa."
