ACT immediately, life is more important than shying away from cancer.
Minister for Women Dr Jiko Luveni conveyed this message yesterday as the country marked International Rural Women's Day.
Dr Luveni encouraged and assured all women, particularly those in rural areas, that getting to a nearest hospital and having checks by doctors or nurses for breast cancer was not hard.
"An increasing number of women are suffering from breast cancer.
"If you contact your doctors or nurses early, you would have ample time for cure," she said.
Dr Luveni said it was time for rural women to take breast cancer seriously.
"It is better to have your breasts checked on a regular basis."
The minister said from next year, her ministry would make provisions for breast cancer check-ups at various women resource centres around the country.
Dr Luveni also acknowledged the education and awareness carried out by the Fiji Cancer Society and this newspaper on breast cancer as the country marks Pinktober month.
