SECURITY forces will be considered to monitor and apprehend perpetrators of indiscriminate burning of pine forests if it continues.
Fiji Pine Group executive chairman Faiz Khan made this comment as he expressed concerns on the mass destruction to pine forests.
Mr Khan said bushfires destroyed about 96 hectares of pine forests in Lololo near Lautoka and Nabou outside of Nadi over the past two weeks. These incidents alone estimated losses of about $250,000.
"We have been holding meetings with farmers living in or around pine forests and have asked them to be more responsible if and when they light fires."
