Update: 2:54PM THE prices of fuel and gas will increase from midnight.
This was revealed by Fiji Commerce Commission chairman Dr Mahendra Reddy during a press conference today.
The price for a litre of unleaded fuel will rise by 13 cents to $2.62 while diesel goes up to $2.37 a litre. The previous price for diesel is $2.21. This is a 16 cents increase for diesel.
Kerosene goes up to $1.90 litre. The previous price is $1.76 while premix will cost $2.55 a litre from tomorrow.
A 12kg cylinder of gas will cost you $45.99. The previous price is $43.44. The 4.5kg cylinder increases to $17.25.
A litre of autogas will cost $2.17 compared to the previous price of $2.05.
In announcing the change, Dr Reddy said the prices were computed using the new Fiji Fuel Pricing Template with revisions to all components in the fuel pricing structure.
Dr Reddy attributed the rise in the cost of petroleum products to an increase in world market prices, the strengthening of the US dollar and an increase in the retail margin for diesel and motor spirit from 2.5 per cent to 3 per cent.
He said the rise in gas price is due to increases in international butane prices, freight and similar exchange rate fluctuations.
