Update: 12:15PM PRIME Minister and Minister for Sugar Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama today opened the 13th African Caribbean Pacific sugar ministerial conference.
He called for the European Union to take heed of the impacts that the abolition of EU sugar production quotas would have on ACP member countries.
"What we want is for our people to benefit from their own sweat and toil by gaining fair and reasonable access to global markets and fair prices," Commodore Bainimarama said.
Close to 150 delegates from 27 countries are attending the conference at the Shangri-Las Fijian Resort and Spa in Sigatoka.
The meeting ends on October 18.
