AUSTRALIAN Football League (AFL) Fiji has begun its search for players to represent the country at the International Cup in Australia next year.
AFL Fiji held a combined trial on Saturday at the Veiuto Primary School grounds where close to 30 players turned up.
Development officer for Asia Pacific Ben Drew conducted the trials and was impressed by the locals.
"We had a series of speed tests, agility tests, vertical leaps and a three kilometre run time trial," he said.
"We recorded some really fast times that are really close to the records in Australia.
"I think the record for the 20 metre sprint is somewhere around 2.7seconds and some of the boys here ran 2.8seconds."
Drew has been in the country for a week and conducting clinics at schools in Lautoka and is now based in Suva.
AFL Fiji development officer Nick Ryan said Fiji won the International Cup Division 2 last year and they were aiming to repeat that performance.
"But first up we have the Oceania Cup in December where more scouts from Australian clubs will be in the Fiji to see the talent on show," he said.
