AN earthquake off Matuku in Lau shook homes along the Central and Eastern Division coast last night.
Mineral Resources director Malakai Finau told The Fiji Times the earthquake measured 6.5 on the Richter Scale at a depth of 194.6 kilometres.
He said there was no tsunami warning.
The earthquake was felt in parts of Fiji, mostly in Tailevu and Suva areas, around 7:30pm.
Some residents in and around Suva posted on Facebook that they experienced the tremors for up to two minutes.
The National Disaster Management Office was monitoring the situation when this edition went to press.
A Ministry of Information statement called on members of the public to remain calm but at the same time to be on alert while officials assessed the extent of the tremors.
