A new winner will be crowned in the premier division after defending champion Tailevu Naitasiri was bundled out in pool play yesterday.
Tailevu Naitasiri went down to Taveuni 0-1 at Nadovu Park and finished second in its pool which was not enough to earn them a semi-final spot which was snapped up by Dreketi for being the best second-placed team behind pool winners Rakiraki, Taveuni and Nasinu.
Bargain Box Rakiraki and Dreketi will face off in one semi-final while Taveuni will take on Nasinu in the other semi-final this morning.
Yesterday evergreen Abinesh Salesh Samy scored a goal in Rakiraki's 2-1 come from behind victory against Dreketi at Churchill Park.
The 35-year-old thanked the Rakiraki officials for having faith in him despite his age.
A recipient of the Fiji FA Footballer of the Year award, Samy said he was still fit and had a lot more to deliver.
Rakiraki coach Pragdeesh Gounder said it was important to maintain the momentum.
"My boys performed so far and we are taking one game at a time," Gounder said.
"The aim is to take the cup back to Rakiraki. Finance is a main concern for a small district like us. However we managed to raise some funds and get players from other districts in the transfer window to boost the team.
"We were down by a goal against Dreketi but the boys kept up the pressure. We played out the full 60 minutes and managed to gain victory."
The semi-finals will kick off at 10.30am today.
