WITH only hours away from the start of Fiji's title defence at the Gold Coast 7s, coach Ben Ryan is confident of a good run at the two-day tournament.
Ryan said he had started seeing improvements in the players' performance during training.
The former England coach had just three days of training with the team in Gold Coast before he sends out his team to its opening game of the tournament against Canada this morning.
"Yes, there has been improvement in training this week," Ryan said.
"What we've been working on has been good and the boys have been focused. The boys visited the ground and tested some kick-off set up and we're trying to make sure that everybody knew what they're doing.
"The players got excited when they went into the stadium (Skilled Park)."
Ryan said the stadium had a perfect surface for running rugby and would surely suit the Fijian style of play.
When asked for his line-up for the opening game, Ryan said he had a fair idea who he wanted in his starting team.
Some players who were constantly in the team during training runs and would likely be in the starting team were Ulaiasi Lawavou, Samu Saqiwa, Sakiusa Nadruku in the forwards and in the backs were Waisea Nacuqu, Ilai Tinai, Osea Kolinisau and Samisoni Viriviri on the wing.
