THE public will soon be seeing pink, as more corporate bodies take the time and make the effort to mark Pinktober by raising awareness about breast cancer.
One such organisation is Matrix Holdings Limited, the parent company of Victoria Wines, Bad Dog Cafe and O'Reilly's Bar.
Company promotions manager Tavai Bale said they would host a corporate cocktails charity night on Thursday next week to commemorate this special month.
"It's designed to be a corporate networking event for the business community and when I say business, I am simply referring to the working community of Suva," Ms Bale said yesterday.
"Employed people who are generally concerned with health and similar issues and who'd spare their time and a small fraction of their earnings to give to charity."
She explained that recently, one of their work colleagues was diagnosed with endometriosis, "a condition that if not treated adequately could likely become cancerous", she said.
"So it struck close to home for us and while, as a company, we'll be contributing to her treatment separately, we'd like this event to boost general awareness."
The event will be held at the Shenanigans Bar on October 17 and tickets are on sale at $10 for women and $15 for men.
"I hope that everybody who attends will leave the event a little bit more educated on the aspects of cancer and further motivated to be pro-active in joining the preventative fight."
The company aims to host this event on an annual basis, in line with the Ministry of Health's initiatives to curb cancer in Fiji.
