STAFF members of ANZ took to the streets early morning this week in commemoration of Pinktober celebrations this month.
With October being the globally recognised month for breast cancer awareness, the bank made the decision to do the early morning walk in memory of family members who had lost their lives to cancer.
"ANZ staff and their families turned up in numbers to the remembrance walk in Suva with ANZ CEO Pacific and CEO Fiji Vishnu Mohan and the President of Fiji, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, leading the way," an ANZ statement noted yesterday.
"ANZ has planned various awareness activities with staff in October to drive the central message to Detect. Treat. Cure. breast cancer."
In the statement, Ratu Epeli said the walk was worthy because of the cause it highlighted.
"What better way to start the weekend than with a brisk walk and for such a worthy cause … through these sorts of awareness initiatives, we are moving a step closer to breaking down the barriers to truly take action," he said.
Mr Mohan agreed with the President, adding: "It should be a thing of the past for breast cancer to be only spoken about behind closed doors.
"Too many have suffered in silence and need support."
