IN an effort to eradicate poverty and crime, youths of Seaqaqa in Macuata have big plans for the future.
The youths have taken a stand to establish an organic farming project in the area.
The co-ordinator of the group, Peni Rakanace, said yesterday the project was necessary because there was a lot of idle land available in Seaqaqa.
"In this district, a lot of criminal activities are committed by the youths and, in an effort to distract them from such acts, we thought of this project," he said.
"This is also one way of earning income and with this, we are eradicating poverty in our own little way.
"This is the way forward for us and we anticipate this project to create employment for us."
Mr Rakanace said they were also planning to establish the Seaqaqa Youth Association.
"This association will be like an information centre for our youths.
"All their grievances and queries will be attended to by this association.
"We are taking a stand against poverty and crime and we know we can do it because we believe in ourselves."
