THE Chinese Government has notified the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, of its wishes to further strengthen relations between the two countries.
In a letter to Ratu Epeli, People's Republic of China President Xi Jingping said the relationship between the two countries had grown over the years.
"Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1975, China-Fiji relationship has made considerable progress, which brings tangible benefits to the two peoples," Mr Xi said.
"The Chinese Government attaches great importance to its friendship with Fiji and regards Fiji as its good friend and partner in the Pacific.
"We would like to make further joint efforts with the Fijian side to further strengthen our friendly exchanges and pragmatic co-operation in various areas, with a view to pushing China-Fiji relationship to a new high."
