ILIESA Delana yesterday took part in the National Games for Special and Inclusive Athletes to inspire the youngsters that were part of the competition.
The 2012 Paralympic Games gold medallist jumped 1.70 metres in the high jump competition at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
Game co-ordinator Salesh Deo said Delana's presence had boosted the morale of the athletes participating in the games.
This year's event had about 650 students from the participating 18 special schools and two inclusive schools.
A 10-member Samoan team sponsored by the US Embassy also took part in the two-day competition.
"When Delana took his jump, everybody stood up to show respect to the champion. It was a big moment for athletes with special needs," Deo said.
"His presence will indeed inspire and motivate those that were part of the games."
Meanwhile, the organisers had not finalised the results and will reveal the winner of the games later.
