YOUTH Minister Viliame Naupoto handed a grant worth about $1000 to the Wheelbarrow Boys Association of Suva.
The grant included reflective jackets and raincoats and was part of the Voluntary Youth Organisation Training Grant.
Speaking in iTaukei, Mr Naupoto commended the association not only for their work in transporting luggage, but for being extra eyes and ears for the police, and acquiring first aid skills from a St John Ambulance Brigade workshop last week.
"Congratulations on this insightful initiative and again the people of Fiji should be informed how services on the streets of our Capital City have been lifted to such levels," he said in a translated document from the ministry.
Special Corporal Akimo Gu, an officer at the Suva Market community post, said since the formation of the association in 2009, the boys' quality of life had improved.
