THE annual awards opportunity for local journalists has come around again, following SeaWeb Asia Pacific's announcement of the opening of the third annual Ocean Journalism Awards.
The awards have seven categories — newspaper, magazine, online publication, television, radio, journalism student and the Sea Series Fellows Category.
The awards pay tribute to journalists who have documented (either through a news piece, a feature article, a broadcast) the criticality of marine-related issues.
A statement issued by SeaWeb AP noted that the role of journalists was key in any society and their ability to generate discussion around such issues was important.
"As pressure on our marine resources increase, it's important that people have access to reliable information to help manage them sustainably," explained SeaWeb Fiji program associate Alumeci Nakeke.
"The 2013 Ocean Journalism Awards recognise the great work Fiji journalists have done in meeting that need this past year."
