AFTER a lapse of three years, the Fisheries Department plans to revive the fishermen's association in northern Macuata to assist fishermen with their livelihoods.
Principal fisheries officer Joji Vakawaletabua said there was a need to revive the association to help fishermen in the area.
"The association started in 2006 and collapsed in January, 2010. Two months after, it was revived then it collapsed again until to date," he said.
"The association is necessary because it will act as an information centre. Fishermen can refer to this association with their grievances or queries.
"The association will work closely with the department in assisting fishermen."
Mr Vakawaletabua said the fishing industry was thriving in some areas, especially in parts of Nadogo and Vaturova.
