AS Fiji Day will be marked this Thursday, the government has called on all Fijians to celebrate the day with friends and families.
An Information Ministry statement issued yesterday said the theme for this year's celebration was Moving Together in Unity to Ensure a Prosperous Fiji.
The statement said official celebrations for Fiji's 43rd anniversary of independence would be held at Albert Park in Suva with the trooping of the colours by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.
President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau will be chief guest.
The statement said celebrations would also be held in other centres across the country and various activities have been organised.
"In Labasa, Lautoka and Levuka, celebrations will feature entertainment and displays by both government and the private sector.
"The Minister for Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Jiko Luveni, will officiate at celebrations in Levuka," the statement said.
Through the statement, government has also called on the public and private sector to celebrate Fiji Day by proudly displaying Fiji flags outside their offices.
"Schools across the country have organised activities to mark the occasion."
