HE wants to serve the people of Fiji with diligence and integrity.
And he also wants to move the country forward through the democratic process.
Peni Turaga believes the People's Democratic Party is the only political party that can move the country forward.
Mr Turaga, 58, is the president of the PDP's Nausori branch that was launched last Friday.
He has confirmed his interest to contest the 2014 election under the PDP banner.
Hailing from Nakorotubu in Ra, he was employed as a civil servant for 33 years, mainly in the education sector.
He was a teacher, headteacher and principal before taking up a senior post at the Education Ministry headquarters.
Now retired, Mr Turaga is an aspiring candidate for the new political party, which has a mix of old and young people interested in politics.
Asked why he entered politics, he said: "I want to take the nation forward through the democratic process."
"I chose the PDP because it's a new party, multi-racial, multi-cultural and with a mix of women and youths."
Mr Turaga said he decided to enter politics because he wanted to serve the people of Fiji with diligence and integrity.
"We have to heal the wounds of the past but we have to let the law deal with it. We can't move forward if we are stuck in the past.
"The support is good from my family, relatives and friends. Most people here are for the PDP, which is an inclusive party. We want to move the country forward."
He said he was confident of being in Parliament after the 2014 election.
