FOR the past 12 years, Ferguson Intermediate School of Auckland, New Zealand, has been helping out schools all over the Pacific, and this week the school visited the Western Division.
School principal Jenny Leach said they often held school fundraising drives to raise money to assist Pacific-based schools.
"In Fiji, we have visited Vuda District School, Lautoka Muslim Primary School and Nadi Primary School and gave sporting gear," she said.
With a school roll of 500, about 76 per cent of Ferguson Intermediate School's population is made up of Pacific Island students.
"Even eight of our teachers are from Fiji.
"We are one of the 20 schools in the world that are Microsoft innovative.
"We will be looking to partner with two schools here and plans are in the pipeline to build two new libraries and computer pods at these schools.
"We at Ferguson Intermediate School never give up on children and students from the Pacific, particularly those from Fiji.
"What we have found is that they are exceptionally well-mannered and well looked after by their parents."
