THE Dudley Methodist Church in the Central Division took time out of its weekly program to celebrate Senior Citizens Day yesterday.
In his address, chief guest and Indian High Commissioner Vinod Kumar reminded those present to respect and honour the elders in our community.
Mr Kumar said it was only wise for parents to teach their children the importance of respecting one another, especially senior people in our homes, churches and society.
The event is celebrated annually in all Indian churches across the country.
Deaconess Ruth Prakash said the celebration had become part of the church's program and something members of the congregation looked forward to.
"It has become an activity that we do so that we can show our elders they are not forgotten," she said.
Members of the church sang gospel songs and entertained senior citizens with songs and dances.
"The message is quite clear that we all need to show respect for our loved elderly citizens," Deaconess Prakash said.
"They still need to know that we care about them."
