PUBLIC service drivers will soon be required to attend a training program with the National Fire Authority.
In an interview with The Fiji Times, LTA chief executive Naisa Tuinaceva said the requirement was endorsed and should be enforced before the end of the year.
The program is a result of the growing incidence of bus fires.
"We are working with the National Fire Authority in organising a training program for PSV licence holders who will be required to go through this new program with the authority," Mr Tuinaceva said.
"It will be a new requirement for PSV licence holders. This will include those who already have the licence and those interested in obtaining the licence.
"We have already endorsed the program and it will become a new requirement under the PSV licence."
Mr Tuinaceva said the program was discussed with the National Fire Authority.
"The NFA is preparing the program and we will implement it in the system for PSV drivers. It's about time we enforce fire safety training for PSV licence holders," he said.
