INDONESIAN designer Samual Wattimena believes Pacific designers should have a voice in the international fashion market.
Mr Wattimena, who was flown into Fiji by the Indonesian Embassy, featured his collection, The Movement of Traditional Cloth, at the Echoes of the Pacific show in the MHCC Fiji Fashion Week at the Vodafone Arena on Thursday night and walked away with the award.
"The Asian, American, European and Japan fashion industries started earlier, so it is about time the Pacific have their vision heard," he said.
"The Pacific has a variety of exotic tribal culture which needs to be explored."
He applauded FJFW Ltd for its work in getting Pacific designers recognised in the industry.
"They are taking giant leaps. Fiji Fashion may not compare right now to other international fashion weeks but they are pushing to get there because they have momentum.
