FIFTY students who were on their way to a school passing-out parade escaped a bus fire incident at Colo-i-Suva on Friday.
The students of Adi Cakobau School quickly evacuated the bus by pushing through glass windows and jumped out.
National Fire Authority CEO John O'Connor said the students were lucky because the bus driver had quickly put out the fire with an an-board extinguisher.
He said the driver's quick thinking saved a lot of lives.
Mr O'Connor said half the students jumped out of the bus when they noticed the fire, with a few of them sustaining minor injuries.
"We received an emergency call that there was a bus fire in Colo-i-Suva, so we had a team that quickly responded to the call," he said.
The students were on their way to their passing-out parade at Albert Park in the charted bus when the incident occurred.
The National Fire Authority has urged members of the community again to be extra alert and careful when travelling in public transportation.
