TEACHERS play an important role in the fight against non-communicable diseases in Fiji.
This was the opinion of World Health Organisation co-ordinator NCD and health promotion Dr Temo Waqaniratu as Fiji marked World Teachers Day yesterday.
"Teachers have great potential to influence the now and next generation," Dr Waqaniratu said.
"Influencing children for the positive is a great investment because it's not just for the now but it's about character formation and how they place themselves in society."
He said it was unfortunate that cases of NCDs in children were rising.
"Our children spend majority of their lives with their teachers so the impact these teachers have to influence our children is great.
"And it could be added to the positive or the negative."
