A POLICE officer is facing criminal charges after he was found to have allegedly taken bribes from a Nadi resident earlier this month.
The accused, acting Inspector Timoci Naulu, appeared at the Nadi Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with two counts of bribery for allegedly accepting about $5500.
Mr Naulu was charged for allegedly receiving the cash from a Kamlesh Kumar on two separate occasions last month.
Mr Naulu was alleged to have taken $5000 from Mr Kumar on September 25 with the reasoning that he would not file charges against Mr Kumar.
The accused is alleged to have also accepted about $500 from the same person on September 29.
The court granted bail of $2000 to the accused with strict conditions.
The court ordered the accused to report to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption office in Lautoka every week before his next court appearance.
