NEWLY-appointed Digicel Fiji 7s skipper Manueli Laqai is ready for the task ahead.
The former Tailevu player was humbled by the calling to lead the national team and added he was ready to do the hard yards to ensure Fiji retained the Gold Coast 7s title in Australia.
Laqai who was the member of the Fiji 7s team that won the opening leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series last year is also hoping to have a better season this year.
He was suspended for six matches for an eye-gouging incident in the Las Vegas 7s during the 2012/13 IRB 7s series.
"I wasn't expecting this (team captain). This is a very proud moment for me and I'm looking forward to the task ahead of me," the policeman said.
"It's a huge challenge for me but I'm ready for the task.
"None of these boys are new to the 7s rugby and we have faith in the team and all we ask for is support from the fans."
Laqai is also expecting to learn new tricks of the shortened code from the newly-appointed Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan.
"I think he will bring some changes to us and we are ready to face those challenges and learn more things from him."
