THE Fiji under-18 rugby team suffered its first defeat last night.
The side lost 7-31 to Australia during its Tri Series Test at Knox Grammar School ground.
After winning the opening tour games against the New South Wales Country Schoolboys 74-10 and New Zealand 22-20, the Fiji boys could not find their rhythm against the home team.
"They studied our game very well and closed us in every aspect of the game," team manager Lionel Danford said.
"I believe the boys gave their best, it was a good experience for the players."
Danford said Australia dominated the rucks. He said they questioned some of the referee's decision.
"There were a lot turnover balls during the rucks. That's what let us down. We do not how that happen but at the end of the day, it is the referee that makes the final decision so we'll accept it."
Danford said they needed to regroup prior to the final match against Australia A on Saturday.
Fiji's only try scored and converted by outside centre Manoa Nakolilevu.
"Our final game is on Saturday, we need to go back and see where we can improve on before taking on Australia A."
